I taught Sunday school in a children's ministry that had two rules:
1) Worshiping God is the most important thing we do.
2) Keep your focus on God.
Not only were those great rules for a children's ministry, they're great rules for life in general. Worship is more than an act that we do on Sunday morning; it's a way of life. It's a simple fact that we were created to worship. Either we're going to worship God or we'll worship something else.
At a rock concert I attended recently, my wife and I observed how people actually worshipped the man on stage. Many times, people are afraid to lift their hands in holy worship of the Lord during a church service. Yet, here were tens of thousands of screaming fans lifting their hands as they adored their pop idol.
If we are members of the body of Christ, we will be spending eternity worshiping God in heaven. Let's not wait until we get there. On the day of our Lord's return, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. Instead of waiting for that day to arrive, let's willingly bow before the throne, and begin to train for our eternal vocation.
Melissa and I are excited about using the arts in worship. There are many beautiful gifts such as dance, drama, and the visual arts which the enemy has taken and twisted into tools of darkness instead of instruments of praise. It's time to reclaim those gifts and use them for the glory of God for which they were created.
